CD90, also known as Thy 1, is a 25-37 kD immunoglobulin superfamily member. It is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored membrane glycoprotein. CD90 is mainly expressed in thymocytes, nerve cells, CD34+ cell subsets, fibroblasts, hematopoietic stem cells, activated endothelial cells and some leukemia cell lines. CD90 is a marker of microvascular endothelial cell activation, related to the formation of new blood vessels, and also one of the important markers for identifying mesenchymal stem cells. CD90 is involved in the regulation of cell adhesion by binding to β2 and β3 integrins. After purification of human CD90 monoclonal antibody by affinity chromatography, the antibodies were conjugated with fluorescein APC under optimal conditions and used for flow cytometric detection of CD90 on cell surface.
